Enjoy a pleasant city tour of Puerto Montt, the capital of Region X, founded in 1853 by German settlers. The excursion includes the Main Square, or Plaza de Armas. Leaving Puerto Montt, the route will take you north to Lake Llanquihue, Chile's largest lake in a beautiful setting with snow-covered volcanoes reflecting in the clear waters. On the 25-minute drive to Puerto Varas, you will pass through beautiful, lush countryside dotted with weathered clapboard barns and churches. Brief photo stop.
Visit Frutillar. This charming German style village is situated on the west side of lake Llanquihue, South America’s third-largest natural lake. A visit to the interesting local museum will provide an insight into the life of German settlers who colonized the area towards the end of the past century. Frutillar is also known for its high quality cuisine and old German "delikatessen".
